How much sugar is in that soda?! One change can make a big difference.
Catapult your weight loss into high gear by cutting out ALL sugary beverages, including sodas, fancy coffee drinks, flavored sugar-sweetened waters, sports drinks, lemonade, sweetened iced tea… even fruit juice. While fruit juice offers more nutrition than other beverages, it's still concentrated in calories and sugar—and all sugary beverages can be a major hindrance to weight loss. For now, you’ll also want to bypass all booze, including wine, beer, and cocktails (but don’t worry, you’ll have an option to enjoy an occasional drink again starting in the third week of the plan).
Starting today, give these liquid fat traps the boot and instead quench your thirst with calorie-free options like water, naturally flavored seltzer, and unsweetened coffee and tea. If you must sweeten your morning brew, stick with a daily total of 1 to 2 teaspoons sugar or other sweetener max.

I think it is great to have a goal, however a month? Not sure what major transformations you are expecting in that time frame, well certainly not healthy ones anyway. I wish everyone the best in their weight loss endeavor, I hope everyone reaches their goals...safely!!
Telling me that I can cut out sugary drinks by switching to water is like telling me I can get more sleep by going to bed. This expert is just stating the obvious, not helping anybody with kicking the habit.

Oh, you must be looking for the easy button...that flushes all the fat from your body, miraculously just by "wishing" it away
there's another easy button, but it's more expensive...to tone your body up without doing any exercise at all.
the rest of us, will stick with the "painfully obvious"...eat less, drink less...exercise more, and VOILA...results.
In my twenties before hypothyroidism all of the above worked. In my late 50s with osteoarthritis in my knees not so much. Seems as doing high impact aerobics, running on concrete in my 20s and 30s was not the best way to care for my body. Hypothyroidism, age, decreased ability to work out have all taken their toll. Eating less is not the way either as I can eat less than 900 calories a day and still not lose an ounce. Balance is the key! Too soon you get old, too late you get smart!
Saying that you basically can't have anything that you enjoy really doesn't help anyone get motivated to diet.
I drink sweetened drinks because they taste good. Basically telling me I'm forced to drink bland, tasteless drinks for an indefinite amount of time doesn't make me want to go on a diet at all.
Lifestyle changes are supposed to be easy and gradual, and should NOT FEEL LIKE A PUNISHMENT.
Yes, because we wouldn't want to do anything difficult. You know what else feels like punishment? heart attacks, strokes, open heart surgery, diabetic seizures, diabetes related foot amputations, chronic back pain from carrying around 100+ extra pounds, climbing stairs with no aerobic capacity......
If one wants to quit very badly, one can. I did it. I stopped buying soft drinks one day two years ago, and have not looked back. Sure it is hard, after quitting I spent several days craving about soft drinks, sometimes even daydreaming about them. Whenever I went to the grocery store and looked at my preferred brand of drink, I could just feel the taste in my mouth and I would immediately feel thirsty. Whenever that happened, I thought of the negative health consequences down the road - obesity, diabetes, heart problems - just not worth it. I want to live healthy and be in control of my life and activities, not spend my future taking medications or taking trips to the hospital. Did it for me and my family and was glad I was able to do it successfully. Now, soft drinks taste too sweet and too nauseating - I cannot even take a sip. Water is my nectar now.
Tried several diets. Best Loss of body fat I had was Practicing International Standard Dancing 1 Hour a day 5 days a week in 2 weeks I went from average to toned. Didn't even try a fat loss or healthy type of diet at the time.
if a pothead like me, who gets major munchies and is content to use that as a valid excuse to binge out...can manage to cut back on sugary drinks, sugary foods and fast food...and lose weight consistently for the past few years (down from 220 to 160 and still going)...
then surely any of you can do it.
and please, dont say you'll TRY...if you're trying...you arent DOING.
just do it.
i have to admit i ate high blood pressure foods during the holidays but i'm back on my diet and power walking!! I stopped drinking sodas 7 yrs ago, coffee, etc. Water from the Tap (filtered) is my Best Friend!!
several years ago I quit adding salt to any food, except in baking, as a result I have a very low tolerance for salty foods; if I can quit my love of Mountain Dew for a month, maybe I will have the same result- things will taste too sugary and I won't enjoy them as much
Time to reach for a Diet Coke. Eliminating or reducing sugars and fats is a good way to lose weight-especially sugared (or high fructose corn syrup sweetened) beverages. I have been drinking diet sodas for over 30 years (pretty much ever since aspartame was first used in them)-my taste buds became so acclimated to diet sodas that I find sugared beverages too sweet. I admit that I still need to lose weight (I make the same resolution every year), but this time, I am taking a daily diary of my weight, blood pressure, and what I eat, so I am aware of what I'm eating daily. I started the diary a year ago at 295 pounds. While my weight has gotten as low as 259 during the course of the year, the pounds came back, mainly due to falling back on my old ways of eating (holiday temptations, etc.) I ended the year at 285 pounds-still a net loss of 10 pounds for the year. Basically, stay away from the fast food joints, except to order a value-menu side salad with fat free dressing, and a diet soda, or order a full size salad, again with fat free dressing and a diet soda, for a filling, but low-calorie meal. Walking helps me lose weight as well.
